Margie Marie (Cato) Dukes, 82, of Jackson, passed away on March 31, 2024, in Jackson.

Mrs. Margie was born on June 17, 1941, in Brownsville, Tenn., the daughter of the late Charlie Otto Cato and Willie Selene Campbell Cato. She was trained as a legal secretary and worked briefly for a lawyer in Georgia before returning home. She worked at Oakley Fashions in Jackson as a seamstress, worked as a lunch lady for the Jackson Madison County School System, and as a sample lady at Sam’s Club.

In her free time, Mrs. Margie enjoyed line dancing, karaoke, and spending time with her animals. She also enjoyed her time as a member of the Tip Top Tappers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Dukes; and her siblings, Joe Cato, W.C. Cato, Carolyn Cato Chaney, and Shirley Cato Revelle.

She is survived by her children, Pam Rudder of Jackson, John Dukes (Lisa) of Jackson, and Mary Murdaugh (Guy) of Savannah; her grandchildren, Josh Rudder (Tracey) of Barre, Vermont, Chris Rudder (Bri) of Jackson; Kara Mobley (Killian) of Jackson; Mark Dukes of Jackson; Rebekah Bradford (Corey) of Jackson; and Zachary Murdaugh (Kristen) of Portland, Tenn.; and 13 great grandchildren.

Visitation with the family was held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Graveside services followed at 1 p.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel of Highland Memorial Gardens with Richard Bragg officiating.
