With less than two weeks remaining until the start of Spring Fling in Murfreesboro for the TSSAA spring sports state championships, here’s a rundown of the teams in Madison County that are still playing as the postseason heads into region tournaments.
Next week’s edition of The Post will have a rundown of what athletes in tennis and track and field qualified for their respective state competitions.
Boys Soccer
Madison
The Mustangs have qualified for the District 14-A championship match, which will be played Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Milan.
Madison will play the hosting Bulldogs.
Both teams will move on to the region tournament, matching up against the top two teams from District 13-A, which are Adamsville and Scotts Hill.
The winner of Friday’s game will host Scotts Hill, and the district runner-up will travel to Adamsville in the region semifinals on Tuesday.
The Mustangs need to win on Tuesday to have a shot at defending their state title from last year in Spring Fling beginning on May 21. The region finalists will qualify for sectionals, which will be played May 18.
Softball
South Side
The Lady Hawks are still alive in the District 12-3A tournament but need to keep winning to keep their season going.
Their game scheduled for Wednesday evening against Hardin County was postponed to Thursday. The winner of that game will play McNairy for a spot in Saturday’s district champion against host and winners’ bracket finalist Lexington.
University School of Jackson
The Lady Bruins won the Division II-A West region championship on Tuesday when they outlasted Northpoint Christian, 11-10.
Because of the championship, the Lady Bruins have a bye into the state quarterfinals, which they will host on May 15 against the winner of Boyd-Buchanan and Friendship Christian, who will meet on Saturday.
The winner of Wednesday’s game will move on to the state semifinals in Murfreesboro, which are part of Spring Fling the following week.
Trinity Christian
The Lady Lions have qualified for the first round of the state tournament, which will be played Saturday.
TCA qualified as the No. 4 team from the West region behind USJ, Northpoint and Evangelical Christian and will travel to Middle Tennessee to take on Goodpasture, who finished as runner-up in the Middle Tennessee Region behind Donelson Christian.
