Fred Murray Joyner, Sr.

Fred Murray Joyner, Sr., 86 of Jackson, passed away on April 2, 2024, in Jackson.

Fred was born on August 14, 1937, in Carroll County, Tenn., the son of the late Charlie Franklin Joyner and Mary Dee McAlexander Joyner. He was a graduate of North Side High School in the class of 1956. He was drafted into the Berlin Conflict and served his country in the U.S. Army at Fort Benning. Fred and his wife Shirley are members of First Baptist Church in Medina. He loved being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He also loved to read and especially biblical related books. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who raised a God-fearing family. He will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Cheree Joyner; and his brother Floyd Joyner.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Blakely Joyner of Jackson; children, Fred Joyner, Jr. (Rebecca) of Jackson, Renee Joyner Yarbro (David, Sr.) of Lavinia, and Douglas Joyner (Lisa) of Bartlett; grandchildren, Jon Joyner (Katie), Jacob Joyner, Christina Duncan (Gabe), David Yarbro, Jr., Benjamin Jorner (Caitlin), Kara Bradley (Caleb), Nicholas Joyner, Coleby Joyner, and Allie Joyner; and great grandchildren, Layla Joyner, Amelia Joyner, Chad Joyner, Myra Duncan, Eden Duncan, Emmette Bradley, and Harper Joyner.

The family received friends and loved ones on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. The funeral service followed at 1 p.m. Burial was in Highland Memorial Gardens.
