Here’s a look at things going on in and around Jackson in the next couple weeks.

Sept. 7

Cheap Trick concert

One of the highlight events of this year’s Soybean Festival in Martin, the band Cheap Trick will be in concert at the WK&T Amphitheater. Tickets range from $20-$30 and can be purchased online at tnsoybeanfestival.org. Any remaining tickets will be available at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at the ticket box office.

Matilda: The Musical

The Jackson Children & Teen Theatre presents Roald Dahl’s Matilda: The Musical. Based on the book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, get ready to sing and cheer on Matilda, the young heroine who proves that even the smallest person can make a big difference. All performances are at The Ned (314 East Main Street in Downtown Jackson). Tickets are $12.50-$17.50 with evening performances Thursday through Saturday at 7 p.m. and a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets are available online at tix.com.

Sept. 8

Food Truck Fridays

Downtown Jackson and the West TN Farmers Market (91 New Market Street in Downtown Jackson) bring you Food Truck Fridays! Make plans to join them every Friday, May through November, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. to experience local eateries at lunch to end your work week and support local businesses. 

AMP Music Series

Do you hear it? Only the music of Jackson and West Tennessee could connect Memphis’ Beale Street and Nashville’s Music Row. Join the City of Jackson in celebrating the rich musical legacy of our region with the 2023 season of Jackson’s Award Winning music venue Jackson’s Amphitheater at the Market (AMP). Located in the heart of Jackson behind the West Tennessee Farmers’ Market and within walking distance of the Jackson Walk, this week’s performer is Bryan Moffitt.

Williams Auditorium concert

The Malpass Brothers will be performing at Williams Auditorium (634 East Main Street in Henderson) at 7:30 p.m. They’re a duo that specializes in classic country in the vein of Johnny Cash, the Louvin Brothers and Hank Williams Sr. Tickets are $29, $39 and $49 and are available online at williamsauditorium.com.

Brothers Osborne concert

One of the highlight events of this year’s Soybean Festival in Martin, the band Brothers Osborne will be in concert at the WK&T Amphitheater. Tickets range from $20-$40 and can be purchased online at Event Brite’s website. Any remaining tickets will be available at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at the ticket box office.

Arts and Crafts Festival

The Ledge, an events venue in Spring Creek at the corner of Highway 70 and Highway 152, will be hosting an arts and crafts festival on Friday and Saturday. Local artisans will gather and showcase their crafts. This one-of-a-kind event in Spring Creek will offer live performances, food trucks, and unique vendors with a variety of handmade wood crafts, artwork, jewelry, candles, and more! Bring the whole family for a fun-filled day celebrating the arts and craft community in West Tennessee.

Sept. 9

Russell Dickerson concert

One of the highlight events of this year’s Soybean Festival in Martin, Russell Dickerson will be in concert at the WK&T Amphitheater. Tickets range from $20-$40 and can be purchased online at Event Brite’s website. Any remaining tickets will be available at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at the ticket box office.

Patriot Day Memorial Stair Climb

You’re invited to honor and remember the brave firefighters who sacrificed their lives on 9/11. Lace-up your sneakers and challenge yourself by climbing the stairs of Jackson Baseball Stadium (4 Fun Place) in remembrance of the heroic first responders. This is a great opportunity to show your support for our local fire department and pay tribute to those who selflessly serve our community. Whether you’re a seasoned climber or a beginner, everyone is welcome to participate. Gather your friends, family, and co-workers to form a team or climb individually. Free T-shirt with proof of registration while supplies last. Registration is $35, and it starts at 8 a.m. before the climb starts at 9 a.m.

KT Tunstall at The Dixie

The Dixie Performing Arts Center (91 Court Square in Huntingdon) will host a concert with internationally known KT Tunstall, whose biggest hit came in 2005 called “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree.” Tickets range from $25-$40 and are available at dixiepac.net. Concert is set to start at 7:30 p.m.

Artifas concert

Hub City Brewing (250 West Main Street in Downtown Jackson) will host Artifas in concert at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance at hubcityevents.com or $20 at the door if there are any left that day.

West TN Collectors Club Coin Show

The 64th annual coin show sponsored by the West Tennessee Collectors Club is scheduled for Sept. 9-10. This annual coin show is held each year the weekend following Labor Day.  U.S. and foreign coins, ancient coins, tokens, gold and silver, paper money, Confederate money, supplies for the collector, books, Civil War and other historic documents, and jewelry will be bought and sold by dealers (all of them primarily coin or currency dealers) from several states. This happens at the Madison County UT/TSU Extension Auditorium at 309 North Parkway in Jackson and will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday until 5 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.

Sept. 10

Tennessee Interscholastic Cycling League Race

The Rockabilly Ridge mountain bike trail at Pugh Bourne Park (343 Oakfield Road) was designed and created by local mountain bike rider Matt Joiner, in partnership with Madison County Parks & Recreation. This singletrack trail twists and turns up and down along the hills and ridges inside Pugh Bourne Park. The trail is classified as intermediate because of the continual elevation changes rather than the technical difficulty. This is one of our shortest loops with great spectator opportunities and the chance for all racers to shine during the midway open field feed zone and fast field finish. Online registration closes Thursday, September 7 at 12 pm CST. On-site race registration is available on Saturday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and on race day beginning at 8 a.m. For those wanting to race, adults can obtain their NICA membership or league rider license online beforehand for $40. For youngsters wanting to race, the online registration fee in advance is $25 for the middle school race and $35 for the high school race. Registration on the day of is $35 for middle school and $45 for high school.

Hub City Autocross

Think you can drive? Put your skills to the test and see what your car can do at their monthly changing course, or come out and check out the action. Vehicles are separated into 5 classes: Rear-wheel drive, front-wheel drive, front-wheel drive, trucks and SUVs and super unlimited. Racing will happen whether the weather rains or shines (within reason). Registration opens at 11 a.m. Entry fee is $20 per driver and $5 per spectator. You must be at least 16 years old to drive. You must have a drivers license with you to register to drive. Helmets must be worn while on track as well as seat belts/harnesses. Failure to do so will result in a stern talking to by the track marshal. Loaner helmets are available on site. DOT and higher spec mandated. For you to be able to run your vehicle that day, you must have it tech’d or you cannot run. Tech inspection in a nutshell: No loose wheels. No loose items in car (cans, floor mats, purses, subs, tools, etc.). No massive fluid leaks. Throttle return spring. Secured battery. Good brake pedal pressure. Working seat belt or properly fitted 5-6 point harness. All of this happens at Jackson Dragway (79 Ranger Road in Jackson).

Sept. 13

Cotton Tour

The Cotton Tour is a field day presented by UT AgResearch and UT Extension (605 Airways Boulevard in Jackson). An entire day of activities starts at 8 a.m.

Sept. 14

Women in Business

The Greater Jackson Chamber presents its monthly Women in Business program, and this year’s theme is self defense. It will be at the DoubleTree Hotel (1770 Highway 45 Bypass in Jackson) from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., and registration is $25 for members of the Chamber and $35 for non-members. Come hear Officer Taylor Gibbons, a 7yr patrol officer/2yr Defensive Tactics instructor, and Captain Terry Halford, a 30 yr police officer with over all training and homeland Security, discuss mental preparedness for attacks and things to be aware of in day to day situations. They will also discuss the Equalizer program for Women’s Self Defense.

Salt & Light Benefit Dinner

Join Area Relief Ministry and its supporters for the 47th Salt & Light Dinner at the Carl Perkins Civic Center (400 South Highland Avenue in Downtown Jackson). The Jackson Symphony will be performing “Let Your Light Shine” with encouraging and spiritual songs. There will be special performances from LOLO, Vonda Peet and Candice Goff with a mass choir from Lane College, Union University and the Hub City Choir. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Concert ONLY tickets are available in the balcony for $25 and can be purchased online at Eventbrite.com.

Wine Down

Crown Winery (3638 East Mitchell Street in Humboldt) is back with its Wine Down concert series. Remember when booking your table reservations to also go ahead and do your pizza reservations. The pizzas time slots go fast.
Visit their website www.crownwinery.com and book online. This week’s entertainment is Missing Fifth. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Fall Hub City Pickleball Tournament

The Fall Hub City Pickleball Tournament sponsored by Rock-N-Roll Sushi will be held Sept. 15-17 at Conger Park (1453 North Highland Avenue in Jackson). Food will be on site. Snacks provided. It will be a round robin format with gold, silver and bronze medals awarded and a seven-game minimum. Registration until Sept. 8 is $65. Friday tournament is singles and youth ages 8-17, Saturday is men’s and women’s doubles and Sunday is mixed doubles. Sip & Shop

Century Farm Winery (1548 Lower Brownsville Road) is hosting Sip & Shop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a day of wine, shopping, and delectable treats at the winery. Get ready for an event featuring 50 vendors showcasing a wide array of treasures from unique crafts and stunning woodwork to exquisite jewelry and mouthwatering homemade treats, you’re sure to find something you love. Admission is free. Bring your friends and family along for a day of fun, shopping, sipping, and celebrating the joys of autumn.

Jackson Symphony’s Greek Fantasia

Experience the power and drama of epic Greek mythological tales and heroes as told through music. This performance, in partnership with the Jackson-Madison County Library’s Big Read program, will feature Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, as heard in Disney’s Fantasia. Show starts at 7 p.m. at The Ned (314 East Main Street in Downtown Jackson). Tickets are available at thejacksonsymphony.org for $40 apiece.

Voices in the Vineyard

Century Farm Winery (1548 Lower Brownsville Road in Jackson) continues its summer concert series with Blue-Eyed Sun at 7 p.m. Music starts at 7 p.m. Limited tables are available. Lawn chairs are available.

Sept. 17

Festival of the Hymns

This year marks the 200th Anniversary of First Presbyterian Church of Jackson. Join them as they celebrate this milestone. At 9:30am, all are invited to join First Presbyterian Church (1573 North Highland Avenue) for a special worship service celebrating the traditional hymns of their faith.

Sept. 19

Emerging Leaders

The Greater Jackson Chamber presents its monthly Emerging Leaders event co-hosted by United Way of West Tennessee. The event will start at Jackson’s Kitchen & Catering, split into two groups for a downtown tour and end at Hub City Brewing. Come enjoy networking, food and drinks while learning about the history of downtown and what is to come in the future. Only 50 tickets are available, and attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes. Emerging Leaders is for emerging business professionals ages 22 –  35. This program is designed to create an avenue for young professionals to connect with networking events, develop professionally with programs and engage within our community through awareness.

Sept. 21

Business After Hours

DoubleTree Hotel (1770 Highway 45 Bypass in Jackson) will be this month’s host of The Greater Jackson Chamber’s networking event. Chamber members are invited to attend to make contacts, network and enjoy hours d’oeuvres from 5-7 p.m.

CASA Rock and Roll Cornhole tournament

CASA of West Tennessee announces the return of its annual fundraiser, the Rock and Roll Cornhole Tournament. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of West Tennessee is a nonprofit organization advocating for children from abusive and neglectful homes. Volunteers from the community provide support and guidance for these children within the juvenile court system, creating a safe, nurturing environment during their time of need. The event is at the West Tennessee Farmer’s Market (91 New Market Street in Downtown Jackson) from 6-10 p.m. Registration starts at $400 for a sponsored team.
