The fourth edition of The Arts Backstage is set to happen on May 10.
The event is a good opportunity for the community and local artists to become better acquainted with each other.
“It’s designed to be a showcase of the arts in Madison County,” said Morgan White, the executive director of the Jackson Arts Council. “It is a fundraiser, and 95% of our funding goes toward programming and grants for artists.
“So with this event, the money that you spend to get in will go mostly toward those performing or displaying their art for those coming in.”
White said it’s also a good way for some of the lesser-known artists and arts groups in the area to be seen by those in attendance.
Tickets for the event are $25 and $15 for students. The ticket gets a person into the event to see the art as well as enjoy refreshments and an open bar.
A new feature about this year’s event is the emerging artists gallery. That will consist entirely of artists that are still in high school.
The event happens at The Ned (314 East Main Street in Downtown Jackson).
“It will be inside this year, which is where it started,” White said. “And the emerging artists gallery will be on the second floor of the building in the old city hall.”
Some of the art works in the main gallery will be up for sale by the artists themselves.
There will also be 10 groups performing from different groups like Ballet Arts, Griot Collective and various theater groups.
“We’re hoping some of the younger artists can see that there are options for them to be artists and make a living doing that,” White said. “This is a good chance for the community to come in and get to know the artists that are here in Jackson, and we hope they will take advantage of the opportunity.”
