RIFA’s Bus Stop Cafe hits the road for summer meals

Posted

The Bus Stop Cafe has hit the road for summer break. This ministry, through the Regional Interfaith Association (RIFA) provides free lunch for kids ages 0-18 as it travels to the most vulnerable areas of Jackson.

The Bus Stop Cafe was purchased in 2018, refurbished, and officially hit the road for its first summer in 2019

RIFA staff and volunteers ride the bus to the most-vulnerable areas of Jackson to deliver free meals to kids ages 0-18. The Bus Stop Cafe runs during spring, summer, and fall breaks

During the summer, kids eat on the bus, while during spring and fall breaks they receive food to-go.

RIFA’s Snack Backpack ministry provides food for elementary schoolchildren who are at risk of going hungry over the weekends during the academic year, but volunteers were often asked, “what happens during the summer?” The Bus Stop Cafe was the answer to that question.

Snack Backpacks are also distributed through the Bus Stop Cafe to feed the children over the weekends.

Volunteers are always needed for this ministry. Anyone who would like to volunteer on the Bus Stop Cafe,  contact Tracie Barnard, RIFA’s Volunteer Coordinator, at tbarnard@rifajackson.org.
