Madison Co. hosting Pray for TN event on July 8

Both houses of the Tennessee state legislature passed a joint resolution – HJR 803 – that calls for the entire state into a time of prayer and fasting in July.

The bill was signed by Gov. Lee on April 16, the schedule is being set and itineraries are being put together for a time of prayer at each courthouse in all 95 counties.

The resolution began with District 32 Representative Monty Fritts in Roane County.

Madison County is set to have its prayer time at 11:30 a.m. on July 8.

Garry Martin, the pastor at Jackson First Assembly, is the one coordinating the service.

“We’re getting different churches from different denominations involved because 2 Chronicles 7:14 says if God’s people that are called by His name will humble ourselves, pray and seek His face, then He will heal our land and forgive us of our sins.

“I don’t know of a time when both of those are needed like they’re needed now in our state and across our country.”

Martin said Madison County Mayor A.J. Massey has said he’ll be a part of the service, and he’s waiting to finalize the rest of the program.

“This is such a needed thing for our country when you look at the road we’re headed down as a nation,” Martin said. “Drug use is getting worse and worse with more people using them, and there are more dangerous drugs available.

“Violence, inflation, poverty, homelessness … a lot of those things are the topics of political discussions, but we’ve had Republicans and Democrats in charge in recent years and neither party is making things any better.

“So now we need to call out to God as a nation and ask Him to intervene because He’s the only answer that can save us.”

Anyone with questions or willing to be involved can contact Martin by calling the church at 731-668-5547.
