Popular Christian music artist Lathan Warlick returned to Jackson to host a free show this past weekend.

The show was originally slated to take place at Jackson’s AMP at the West Tennessee Farmer’s Market, but the location was changed to the Carl Perkins Civic Center due to the anticipation of a large crowd.

The show was a collaborative effort between Warlick, the City of Jackson, Jackson Hidden Tracks, and Visit Jackson.

The concert featured multiple opening acts for the crowd to enjoy. These acts included hip hop musician Arctic, a senior at University of Memphis Lambuth, and Johnny Day, a country artist who recently collaborated with Warlick for the song “Take It To The Country.”

The evening also saw a guest appearance by Mayor Scott Conger, who welcomed Warlick back to Jackson and presented a proclamation declaring July 5 as “Lathan Warlick Day” here in Jackson.

Warlick tearfully thanked Jackson for the city’s attendance at his concert and the continued support he has received since being back in his hometown.

“It feels like Jackson just loves me, it feels like so much support in the city,” said Warlick.

Warlick is well-known for his fusion of rap, hip hop and country genres in his songs. He originally dabbled in both hip hop dance and secular music. Following a tragic incident at a night club, Warlick turned his life in a different direction and began making Christian music.

Warlick spoke on the shift in his career and how he wanted to make a difference by writing music that reflected his Christian beliefs. He explained how seeing tough times growing up in East Jackson fueled his faith-centered music and his desire to make a difference for his community.

Warlick conveyed how much he loves unity and how he hopes his message “God, Love, Unity” will encourage his listeners across all backgrounds and races.

During the show, Lathan also spoke on his personal testimony and his desire to spread the love of Jesus through his performance here in Jackson.

“I hope someone leaves here tonight wanting to learn about Jesus,” said Warlick.

Warlick hinted at his upcoming album that is set to release this fall. His music can currently be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, and other major music streaming platforms.
