HOPE FOR THE HOME: Family reflections on Christmas - Part III

Posted

Jerry: The prophecies about the Coming of the Messiah were all fulfilled through the life of Jesus. We are told in Isaiah 9:6, “He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Each of these titles reveals Jesus as Messiah. It can be a challenging task for parents to teach their children of the love of Jesus and that He is the fulfillment of Old Testament promises. Jesus Himself spoke in the New Testament of what His life, death and resurrection would mean for all mankind. Let us encourage you to spend time during this Christmas season reading the scriptures with you family concerning the birth of Jesus. If it were not for Him, there would be no “Christ” in Christmas!

Becky: We have given our children and grandchildren gifts that we consider treasures. But you know what? These gifts will not last for eternity. They can only be enjoyed for a time. What about giving your family the gift of Truth for Christmas? Do you always tell the truth? Who is telling the truth? Can you really know truth? It seems that many people speak in one way at certain times and then switch at other times. It can be hard to discern the truth in our secular culture. Only in the Bible can you find lasting truth. God leads us to know truth by leading us to Jesus and Jesus said that we can learn truth by listening to the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in John 14:16, “I will ask the Father and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever. The Spirit of Truth.” If you will read what Jesus said about Himself and about truth you can give your family a beautiful and lasting Christmas present. Not wrapped in foil or ribbon but a gift that can be engraved permanently on their hearts.
