Top players helped teams improve in Week 2

In Madison County high school football for Week 2, there were some quality performances turned in by some of the skill players.

Here’s a look at who would’ve been the top athletes if there were a fantasy football league based on the local squads as each team worked to find out a little more about itself and make improvements from Week 1.

Carson Graves, North Side: The junior quarterback had three touchdown passes while completing four of five.

Austin Kelley, Jackson Christian: The quarterback completed 16 of 21 passes for 324 yards with four touchdowns and ran five yards for another score.

Jay’Len Mosley, Jackson Christian: The four-star recruiting prospect caught nine passes for 187 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Layton Robertson, South Side: He had a touchdown pass and 93 passing yards, and he carried the ball five times for 49 yards and another score in a two-point win.

Javonte Smith, North Side: In a night where the Indians spread the wealth in a big win, Smith had the longest play from scrimmage with a 64-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the first quarter after the kickoff. He caught his pass after it bounced off a defender’s hands as well.

Noah Spencer, USJ: The running back carried the ball 17 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Both scores came in the fourth quarter as the Bruins needed them to pick up a one-point win.

Chuck Stokes, South Side: The running back is usually known for what he does on the ground, which was 55 yards on five carries this week. But he caught a 41-yard touchdown pass in a close win.
