The Madison Co. Sheriff's Office is investigating why a woman was found laying on the side of Highway 70E Thursday night.

A photo shared on social media shows a woman laying in the grass on the side of the road. Vehicle headlights shined on her in the photo. The Jackson Post has made the decision to not show the photo of the woman, in respect to her privacy.

The caption read in part, "I won’t post the video, but here’s a still. This woman was assaulted and thrown out of a moving vehicle on highway 70."

According to the Sheriff's Office, they responded to a report of a white female who was observed laying on the ground near Betty Holland Rd. and HWY 70E. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later released.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the possible suspect is described as a white male, dark hair, a beard and was wearing a baseball cap at the time of the incident. The suspect vehicle is possibly white, in color, with gray interior," the press release said.

The release continues to say the victim is a resident of Henderson Co., Tenn. It also says this was not a sex/human trafficking situation.

The investigation is ongoing.
