William Edward Scott Jr.

William Edgar (Bill) Scott, Jr., 93, of Jackson passed away on March 29, 2024, at his home.
Bill was born on May 23, 1930, in Henderson, Tenn. His mother was Lillian Freeman, and his Father was Ed Scott. He had four siblings.
He is survived by his brother, Don Scott, and his sister, Ann Knight of Wisconsin. His sisters, Mildred and Frances, preceded him in death.
He grew up in Henderson with his family at the “Old Home Place” as he lovingly referred to it. He had a happy childhood and a wonderful family. Bill went to the Marines to serve the United States of America. He spent four years in the military.
Bill met his beloved wife, Jean Scott in Livingston, Texas, and they were married on October 29,1949. They moved to Houston, Texas, where he worked for Maxwell House Coffee for many years. Their one and only child, Larry Scott, was born in Houston, Texas, in July 1958. He became the center of their life and attention. Bill doted on his son and his life became full.
They relocated back to his home state of Tennessee and built a home in Jackson, Tennessee. Bill worked for Proctor and Gamble Company as a devoted employee and retired there proudly after 23 yrs.
Retirement life was not suitable for Bill as he loved to socialize and talk with folks and he missed being around people. Bill then went to work for a car dealership local to Jackson, delivering and picking up brand new cars. His delivery business grew to serve several Dealerships in and around Jackson. He was so content in his driving days even though his family often worried he was overdoing it and hoped he would stop the long drives. Bill, however, remained doing that until his advanced 91 years of age prevented him from safely continuing. The Dealerships were sorry to see him leave as he was a compliment to their businesses.
In his spare time Bill enjoyed daily trips to the mall to walk for exercise with his sister Mildred. It kept them close as siblings and offered Bill the opportunity to socialize with other folks at the mall and share jokes and pearls of wisdom with them. When Mildred passed away, Bill missed his sister dearly and fondly remembered their walks.
On May 24, 2015, Bill and Larry lost Jean in a tragic accident and were devastated. Larry was at the stage of spending lots of time caring for his parents’ needs at the Family Home. He moved back home to take care of Bill and remained there lovingly taking care of his father till his death.
Bill Scott woke up every single day of the last decade of his life saying how “Thankful he was to God for letting him survive with good health and live to be 92 years old. Every day, he spoke of how grateful he was that he and his son had lived together in complete Harmony and how blessed he was that his son had cared for him every day of his remaining life.
Bill was dedicated to keeping in touch with his extended Family and Friends. He would call daily to say “hello” or he would be delighted if they called him first and showed him, they cared for him as well. His phrase every day before he hung up with folks was, “I still remember the GOOD OLE DAYS we spent together.
Larry often took Bill driving to Henderson to visit the OLD HOME PLACE in Henderson, Tenn., where he shared stories of growing up and some of his dearest memories. Some of us in the extended family were blessed to be able to go on that drive with Bill and were enchanted by his stories and life there as a child. Larry never tired of taking him down these trips to Memory Lane because he always gained some knew knowledge of his heritage and his ancestors.
The end of Bill’s life at 93 years old had many challenges but he and his son had worked out all the kinks and had a smoothly-running household till the last day.
Bill woke up on Good Friday with a tiny moment of recognition and then crossed over with Larry by his side as he had been since Jean died.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 10-11 a.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Bill will be interred beside his wife Jean at Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin, Texas, under the direction of Gipson Funeral Home.
