West Jackson Baptist hosts second annual Christmas Village

For the second year in a row, West Jackson Baptist Church hosted its Christmas Village last weekend, giving families a chance to enjoy the season in a variety of ways, mostly connected to the Christmas story and how Jesus was born.

In front of the church was a tall Christmas tree, around which worship leaders and other singers from the church led visitors in caroling and worship.

Around the carolers were other things to do including a children’s train ride around the parking lot, a petting zoo of animals that were possibly in the stable where Mary gave birth to Jesus and carnival-type games with a Christmas theme to them.

Inside the church were hot chocolate and cookies served at the coffee bar in the lobby along with a series of booths depicting “Christmas Around the World.”

In the fellowship hall, a group of 10 members of the church presented a small production, “The Shepherds’ Tale,” which presented the story of Jesus’ birth from the perspective of the shepherds in the field who went to the stable to see the newborn King.

In the back parking lot were food trucks with various offerings as well as the setup for winter tubing, in which ramps of different heights were constructed from a wooden platform, and children of all ages could get on an innertube and ride it down the frozen ramp for an experience similar to riding down a snow-covered hill.
