Top players shined in tough matchups

Even when teams take a loss, that doesn’t mean none of their players necessarily failed to turn in quality individual performances.

The seven teams in Madison County have a combined record of 4-10 in the last two weeks, so wins have been difficult to come by in that time.

But it’s not difficult to find a player or two on each team who’s given a valiant effort in a loss.

We had a couple of teams in North Side and Trinity Christian that weren’t given much of a chance to win by many outside their locker rooms, but they were both on the verge of winning in the second half.

And while Liberty hasn’t won a game this year and JCM hasn’t won since beating Liberty in Week 1, the fact that players on both squads continue to fight hard each week for wins is commendable by the boys in both green and maroon.

So here are a few top players from Week 6:

Jamarion Burns, South Side: Caught three passes for 132 yards and a touchdown.

Austin Kelley, Jackson Christian: Completed 13 of 19 passes for 286 yards and five touchdowns to four receivers.

Keivon Marshall, Liberty: He recorded a 97-yard run for a touchdown for the Crusaders.

Javonte Smith, North Side: Caught two touchdown passes as the Indians came close to beating an undefeated opponent.

Lekhy Thompkins, Trinity Christian: The running back carried the ball 28 times for 173 yards and three touchdowns.
