According to a statement released by the State agency, officers with the Jackson Police Department responded to the house around 6 p.m. Sunday, March 12, to a report of shots fired.

The release says officers found 31-year-old Glennard Herndon in the backyard holding a firearm.

“Initial reports from the scene indicate that while officers spoke with Herndon, he pointed his firearm in the direction of the officers. One officer fired his weapon, striking Herndon. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. No officers were injured in this incident,” the TBI statement says.

The Jackson Police Department also released a statement about the incident:

The individual also pointed the weapon in the direction of the officers. A Jackson Police Officer fired one (1) round, striking the individual, and he was later pronounced deceased at a local hospital.

The Jackson Police Department contacted the District Attorney’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is the lead agency conducting the investigation, due to it being an officer-involved shooting, resulting in the death of an individual.
