Posted

Jackson Police Department was called to an incident at Picture Perfect Event Center at 2310 North Highland Avenue.
When they arrived, they found the aftermath of a mass shooting that left one dead and eight others injured.
Two victims were airlifted from the site straight to a hospital in Memphis, and another was flown to Memphis after being treated at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Five others were taken to JMCGH and were treated and released.
According to a statement Sunday afternoon from JPD, responding officers were receiving very little information from eye witnesses in the center as they began the information.
Three days later, on Wednesday, Mayor Scott Conger put out a plea for help in the investigation via social media.
"The Jackson Police Department is working around the clock to find those responsible and bring them to justice," Conger's statement said. "But they can't do it alone. If you were at the event or know anything about what happened, I urge you to come forward.
"Your information, no matter how small it may seem, could make all the difference in solving this case. Your courage in speaking up will help bring justice to the victims and their families."
Later on Wednesday, JPD released another statement that named the victim who died, which was 25-year-old Lar'Curia Roberson.
According to her Facebook profile, Roberson was a graduate of Liberty Tech with a number of friends mourning per passing with comments on her page.
It also identified a suspect: Matthew Berry.
Berry, 22, has been charged with first degree felony murder and attempted second degree murder.
JPD and Crimestoppers urges the public to let them know about anything pertaining to this or any other investigation that could lead to the apprehension of any guilty people. Call JPD at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-8477.
