State fair returning this week

The West Tennessee Fair is coming back to Jackson next week.

Starting on Tuesday, Sept. 12, the Jackson Fairgrounds will be the place to be in Downtown Jackson for rides, food, exhibits and entertainment.

Festivities start on Sept. 12 when gates open at 5 p.m. with a $20 pay-one-price night. Hypnotist Tommy Vee will have two shots at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Miss Fairest of the Fair pageant will be at 8 p.m. Gates close at 10 p.m.

On Wednesday, Sept. 13, gates will open from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., for the exhibit building to allow viewing only. Gates will open for everyone at 6 p.m. Tommy Vee will be doing his hypnotism show twice again. Also happening is the Meat Goat Show at 6 p.m., the Miss Junior Fairest of the Fair at 7 p.m. and Miss Teen Fairest of the Fair at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 and an arm band to ride rides is $20. Gates close at 10 p.m.

Gates open on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 5 p.m. Tommy Vee’s hypnotism shows are happening again with the Miss Tiny Fairest of the Fair at 7 p.m. and Miss Petite Fairest of the Fair at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 and an arm band to ride rides is $20. Gates close at 10 p.m.

When gates open at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, tickets will be $5 until 8 p.m. After that, they’ll be $10. Along with Tommy Vee’s shows, the Commercial Ewe and Market Lamb Show will happen at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 and an arm band to ride rides is $25. Gates close at 10 p.m.

Gates open at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, for $5. There will be a breeding sheep show at noon, birds of prey and snakes at 1 p.m., baby girl Fairest of the Fair at 2 p.m., baby boy Fairest of the Fair at 4 p.m., Mister Tiny Fairest of the Fair at 4 p.m. and hypnotism shows at 1, 4 and 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 and an arm band to ride rides is $25. Gates close at 10:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Sept. 17, the exhibit building will open at 10:30 a.m. for a free church service conducted by the people of Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church that begins at 11 a.m. After that, festivities for the final day begin with birds of prey show at noon. Also at noon, senior day and special needs visitors ride for an hour. Gates officially open for the public at 1 p.m. Hypnotism shows at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. happen before gates close at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 and an arm band to ride rides is $20.
