Single tickets for Jackson Symphony on sale
The Jackson Symphony is set to start its 63rd season in less than two months, and there’s a rare ticket sale happening this week for anyone wanting to experience it that never has before.
“For one week, we’re taking 25% off single ticket prices for all seats,” said Sherry Freeman, executive director of The Symphony.
That sale begins July 31 and lasts until Aug. 4.
“Really in the last year, we’ve had a huge push into 10 counties of West Tennessee because we want West Tennessee people to understand that The Symphony is a part of their world and not just for us here in Jackson,” Freeman said. “And if discounted ticket prices is the reason a person decides to give us a try, then they’re more than welcome to join us.”
The season is set to begin on Sept. 16 with a different presentation than normal for TJS – “Greek Fantasia.” This performance will present tales from Greek mythology told through music in partnership with Jackson-Madison County Library’s Big Read program. It will be presented at The Ned.
Two weeks after that will be the annual Starlight Symphony at First Presbyterian Church on Sept. 30.
On the night of Oct. 14, TJS will be at Carl Perkins Civic Center with Brandon Lay, a singer and songwriter from Jackson, presenting “Don’t Fence Me In,” which will feature music from the American West.
TJS will move to First Baptist Church on Nov. 4 for “Reimagined Requiem,” which will feature Mozart’s Requiem, guest soloists and a full choir.
The Symphony will celebrate Christmas on Dec. 2 at the Civic Cetner with the Family Christmas children’s matinee at 11 a.m. and the Holiday Pops concert at 7:30 with the Jackson Choral Society, Ballet Arts of Jackson and UTM Choir.
After a two-month break for the holidays, TJS will celebrate Valentine’s Day on Feb. 10 with “Love on the Silver Screen” with a number of songs from films like “Cinderella” and “Sleeping Beauty.”
TJS will return to The Ned on March 9 with “Classic Edge” as guest solist Konstantin Heidrich will play Shostakovich’s “Cello Conerto No. 1.”
The season will end on April 6 with “Queens of Soul,” which will celebrate the music of such soul and R&B female singers like West Tennessee’s Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Whitney Houston and Alicia Keys.
