1950 — 2024
Sandra Anthony Matthews, 73, of Jackson, died March 5, 2024 in Jackson.
Sandra was born on April 1, 1950 in Jackson, Tenn., to the late Eugene Anthony and Jessie King Anthony. Sandra was born and raised in Jackson where she attended Malesus Elementary School and South Side High School. She remained in contact with many of her classmates and friends from her youth. She very much enjoyed reading novels, being outside, cultivating flowers, dancing, and spending time socializing with family and friends.
Sandra also loved her cats! Over the decades, she was always caring for at least one or two cats, which became an integral part of her daily routine. She was a doting and wonderful grandmother to her two grandchildren and loved to tell anyone and everyone about them. She unselfishly gave of her time, energy, and resources especially when her grandchildren were young. Over the last few years, she managed her illness and decline with humor, spunk, and grace. With the aid of her wonderful health care team, she was able to remain in her home until the very end.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Shelby Anthony Collins and Faye Anthony Haynes.
She is survived by her daughter, Molly Wylie (Scott) of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and her grandchildren, Katie Wylie and Cooper Wylie, both of Murfreesboro.
The family received friends on Monday, March 11, 2024 from 12–1 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Funeral services followed at 1 p.m. at the funeral home; burial was in Liberty Grove Cemetery.
