Roy Leonard (Steve) Stephenson, 73 of Jackson, died March 5, 2024 in Memphis, Tenn.
Steve was born on October 13, 1950 in Jackson, Tenn., the only child of the late Roy Willie Stephenson and Mary Jo Sheldt Stephenson. Steve was married in 1972 to the love of his life, Joyce. He was retired. He attended St. Mary’s School in Jackson TN, and went on to graduate from Jackson High School. He then attended Jackson State where he received an Associate Degree.
He was a fourth degree of the Knights of Columbus at St Mary’s. During his childhood, he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America. One of his favorite childhood memories, was playing for Jackson Little League baseball team, where they won at the state level and they went on to play at the regional tournaments in Florida in 1963.
He loved his family and his favorite pastimes/hobbies were watching baseball and football with his son and grandchildren, gardening, reading, and listening to music.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Marie Stephenson of Jackson; son, Patrick Stephenson (Jennifer) of Jackson; grandchildren, Jessica Mask (Randell), Zach Cole, Julian Stephenson (Kylee), and Jett Stephenson (Daisy); and six great grandchildren; and his beloved cat, Sophie.
The family received friends on Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons; funeral services followed at 12 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers were Harold McDonald, Larry McDonald, David Bryan, Ethan McDonald, Dillon Hopper, Julian Stephenson, and Jett Stephenson.
