Pets rock at the Jackson Fairgrounds

The Jackson Fairgrounds went to the dogs Saturday, July 15. The Jackson Animal Care Center hosted its second Pets ROCK! Fest and welcomed almost 2,000 people and hundreds of pets. 

“I'm super excited to see just the reception we've gotten from the community and and just the willingness that we've had from all the different city departments to get involved, to really just make Jackson a more progressive and and fun environment for people and your pets,” Whitney Owen, Director of JACC said. 

More than 60 vendors attended the event, many of them selling out of goods. Dozens of dogs also made their way to the pool set up outside to compete in the Dock Dogs competition. 

“Education is the biggest struggle that we have. It's also the most successful endeavor that we jump into. Because a lot of people think that cost effective, high quality pet care is out of reach. And that it's just it doesn't exist and that's not that's not facts. There you can take very, very good care of your dogs and cats at a reasonable price. And so that's what we're here to do is to put them in connection with the vendors that provide the services that they're interested in. They can have one on one consultations with the vendors while they're here. Find out exactly what they're looking at cost wise,” Owen said.

The Jackson Animal Care Center adopted out almost 36 dogs during the festival. They also gave out more than 70 spay and neuter vouchers and sold out of microchips. 

“So overall, the goal is to educate our city and educate our county so that 10 years from now, we're not fighting the same fight we're fighting today,” Owen said.
