Let this article be a heads up for any athletes in the area who break or come close to breaking any TSSAA records with your play in the future.
If you turn in a performance in a game or season or career that’s good enough to make it onto the TSSAA record books, getting your name on their website on the records page is a pretty simple process.
This is being said this week because Trinity Christian receiver Brayden Waller appears to have done that.
The junior caught 11 passes for 341 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Fayette Academy on the road last week.
That 341 number is apparently good enough to rank third on the list of single-game receiving records for the entire state.
A phone call to TSSAA Assistant Executive Director Matthew Gillespie was informative in finding out that submitting those stats for record book consideration is a simple process.
“When you go to the page for each sport’s records on our website, there’s a link at the top that says ‘submit a performance,’” Gillespie said. “And clicking on that link is pretty simple.
“You print off the form and then scan it and e-mail it to me or I guess you could send it to me through the U.S. Postal Service if you preferred. You fill out the information, and we ask for some kind of documentation that supports the submission like an official stat sheet from the game or a newspaper article or something that verifies this performance actually happened.”
The process is the same for every sport except track and field, which has its own regulations for recording record-breaking performances.
But here’s a look at what Waller and what other top performers did in Week 4 of high school football season.
Austin Kelley, Jackson Christian: The quarterback completed 11 of 14 passes for 177 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Deuce Lawrence, Jackson Christian: The running back carried the ball 14 times for 120 yards and two touchdowns.
Jay’Len Mosley, Jackson Christian: The receiver caught seven passes for 150 yards and a touchdown, and he intercepted a pass from the other team and returned it for another score.
