Five candidates for Jackson Mayor converged on Jackson State Community College Tuesday night for the final known occasion where they would all be in one place before Election Day to answer questions pertaining to the issues of the city.
JSCC, West TN PBS and The Jackson Post partnered to bring the candidates together for the Jackson Mayoral Forum.
For an hour, Ray Condray, Mayor Scott Conger, Daryl Hubbard, Lisa Williams-Lyons and Jerry Woods sat at tables with about 120 people watching live in the room and at least 500 more watching on West TN PBS’ Facebook page and took questions from The Post’s Julia Ewoldt and Brandon Shields.
The questions were on topics ranging including their first priority once they take office, addressing the City’s debt, maximizing the impact of Blue Oval City, affordable housing, road repairs, stormwater drainage, community programs, local arts, crime, growth in South and East Jackson, helping Jackson-Madison County Schools, leading the employees of the City and parks.
The livestream of the event is still available on West TN PBS’ Facebook page.
The station will also broadcast it 10 times over the air leading up to Election Day. Here’s a schedule of those broadcasts:
Election Day for Jackson’s Municipal Elections is May 2. Early voting starts April 12 and runs through April 27 with voting hours being 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. until noon on Saturdays.
