The TSSAA and the Tennessee Titans released the list of semifinalists for Mr. Football awards in each classification Thursday, and three from Madison County were among those listed.
Of the five semifinalists in Division II-A, two of them are from the area.
Jay’Len Mosley, the four-star senior wide receiver from Jackson Christian who won the award last year, is a semifinalist again this year.
He finished the regular season with 893 receiving yards on 49 catches and 15 touchdowns. Along with that, he carried the ball nine times for 36 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Brayden Waller, a senior wide receiver from Trinity Christian who’s put his name in the TSSAA record books a couple times already, leads TCA with 742 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 40 receptions. He’s also helped out in the ground game with 167 yards and seven touchdowns on 25 carries. Waller plays both ways and has recorded 38 total tackles this year to go with four interceptions returned for 148 yards. He’s also been a weapon on special teams as he’s returned five kicks for 101 yards and 10 punts for 93 yards. He leads TCA with a total of 108 points scored on 18 touchdowns with three of his interception returns going all the way into the end zone.
The other three players up for Division II-A Mr. Football are Mitchell Cash Carey from Donelson Christian, Jared Curtis from Nashville Christian and Nix Fullen from Tipton-Rosemark.
The other Mr. Football semifinalist is University School of Jackson senior running back Noah Spencer. He finished the regular season with 1,862 yards and 26 touchdowns on 183 carries, including 38 last week in the upset win over Lausanne to win the region championship. He also leads the team in receiving yards with 480 and five touchdowns on 29 receptions. He threw three passes, completed all of them for 18 yards, and one of them was a touchdown last week. On defense, he had 26 tackles, three for loss with a sack. He intercepted two passes and returned them for 55 yards, and he returned one punt for 42 yards. His 186 total points, coming from his 31 touchdowns, makes up 62 percent of the total points USJ has scored this year.
The other four semifinalists in Division II-AA Mr. Football are Hutson Chance from Christ Presbyterian Academy, David Green from Boyd Buchanan, Kaedyn Marable from Battle Ground Academy and Terrion Thomas from Knoxville Grace.
Three finalists for each class will be announced on Nov. 26, and the winners will be announced during a special ceremony at Nissan Stadium on Dec. 10.
Mr. Football is an award based on the regular season, but all three players will compete in the Division II playoffs. Trinity Christian (First Assembly Christian School) and USJ (Webb School of Bell Buckle) will both play at home this week, and Jackson Christian has a bye into the second round and will play next week.
