Luczensky, Taylor leave JMCSS

Jackson-Madison County Schools lost two coaches this week.

Sacred Heart of Jesus High School announced a new leader for its soccer programs, and that new coach was Igor Luczensky.

Luczensky takes the job at Sacred Heart less than a month removed from having led Madison’s boys to their first-ever state championship and undefeated season.

Luczensky is making the move from Division I Class A in TSSAA to Division II-A.

Another coach the district has lost is South Side softball coach Mason Taylor.

Taylor was announced on Tuesday as the new softball coach at one of South Side’s biggest rivals, Lexington.

The Lady Tigers were state champions in 2022 and were the team that eliminated South Side in the region semifinals this year en route to another run at Spring Fling.

These are two open spots JMCSS will try to fill, and Taylor’s exit from South Side means that will be another assistant position the next head football coach will fill as well since Taylor was on the football staff.

A couple other moves JMCSS has made is switching girls’ basketball coaches at Jackson Central-Merry and Liberty.

Jeremy Simmons, who was the coach at Liberty the last two years, is moving over to coach the team at his alma mater, the Lady Cougars.

JCM’s coach last year, Brian Lake, is making the move to coach the Lady Crusaders.

Lake had JCM competitive in its district the last two years, while Liberty struggled throughout the season but showed improvement toward the end of the season this past year.
