Lovett’s Western Auto to continue serving South Jackson, after 50 years

After 50 years, you might think the owner of Lovett’s Western Auto might be sad to sell the store. However, for Georgia Drumwright, it was a celebration. So much of a celebration, in fact, her friends and family threw a party. 

“We're excited because Bruce and Kym Lovett are going to carry it on just like mom and dad did, back in the day when mom and dad were actually here working,” Mitzi Warren, Drumwright’s daughter said at the celebration. 

Dozens of people filtered through the store at the party, congratulating Georgia Drumwright, and  her family, on the sale. 

“Being able to serve Jesus and to be able to help people get financed and get their needs, and just helping and serving God,” Drumwright said about her favorite parts of running the store.

The the locally-owned store, located on S. Highland Ave., is known for its selection of small motor tools and repairs. Georgia, and her husband Neal, owned the store since 1973. Neal passed away at the age of 85 in 2013. 

“We just embrace this community and loved it and they would come in for all of their needs. We used to sell everything for the home. We did auto work, we sell tires. We had appliances, we had furniture. We had electronics, a lot of things just like the Walmart before Walmart was here,” Warren said.

Now, the Lovett family will be taking over the business. They said they plan to keep it true to the Drumwright family’s commitment to South Jackson. 

“Customer service is the most important thing. That's the very first thing. It's not sales. We don't want to be the biggest. We don't want to be the smallest. We want to give you the best customer service, and when you leave here, you leave with a smile,” Bruce Lovett said, “Over the last 50 years, the Drumwright family has made a lot of families in South Jackson happy they have put smiles on their faces when they were down. We're going to continue that legacy here at Western auto.”
