Louis Marshall Minor was the second child born to the union of Louis T. Minor and Sadie Leigh Minor on Dec. 6, 1959, in Ripley, but grew up in Brownsville, Tenn. He was affectionately known as Marshall to childhood friends and close family. Louis went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 27, 2024, while in hospice care in the home of his sister, Sarah, and nephew, Stephen.
He often attended First Baptist Church whenever he visited with his sisters in Jackson.
Louis graduated from Haywood High School in 1978 and was known for his larger-than-life afro. He attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tenn.
He started his career working in his parent's grocery store as a young teenager, learning much of what he needed for his life’s work. Louis’s career in retail spanned over 30 years working for Wal-Mart, Megamart, and H. G. Hill Grocery Store, where he retired after over a decade as Assistant Manager in Springfield, Tenn.
Marshall was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother, Alvin Walker Leigh.
Louis leaves to cherish his memories: Tamika Anderson, who did all she could to show love and support for her father (Brownsville); Brandie Jones, a loving, devoted daughter who was his principal caretaker (Nashville); Victoria Minor and Louis Trevor Minor (Nashville); three grandchildren, Destanie Taylor, his personal prayer warrior, (Nashville); Marcellaus Boyd and Myahil Boyd (Brownsville); two sisters, Sarah Minor Chatman (Jackson); Zelda Minor Jones (Humboldt); one niece, Martinez Chatman Addae (Laurel, MD); one nephew, Stephen Minor Chatman, who loved and assisted his uncle, (Jackson); one great-nephew, David Austin Kwame Addae (Laurel, MD); loving cousins and friends. Merv Banister, Jeffrey Thomas, and Mac Jones were his closest friends, and Louis considered them brothers. Other close friends dear to Louis include Jenni Kriser, Vienitta Jobe, and Belinda Browning.
