Lona Louise Grim Hoover, 81, passed away on May 28, 2024, at her home in Jackson.
Lona was born on December 2, 1942, in York, Penn., the daughter of the late Luther Edwin Grim and Dorothy Hyson Grim. She grew up in the small community of Winterstown, Penn., and attended schools in the Red Lion Area School District.
Lona earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Juniata College and also studied at Wheaton College. She taught fifth and sixth grades before starting a family. She worked at the Baptist Book Store and the Public Library in Huntsville, Ala., and also volunteered her time to get libraries started at various schools and churches throughout the years. Lona later went on to earn her Masters of Library Science Degree from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa and then worked as a cataloger at the libraries of Alabama A&M and Mississippi State University before she retired. She had several published articles during her time at Mississippi State.
Lona loved birdwatching, reading, libraries, studying God’s word, and sharing good books with others.
She is survived by her daughter, Beth Hoover Jamison and her husband Matthew of Jackson and their children, Stephen and Sarah Jamison; and her brother, Ronald Grim of Bethesda, Md., and his children, Theron Grim and his wife Amy of South Kingstown, RI, and Alaina Grim of Baltimore, Md.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Lona Hoover were held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 1 pm at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with Rev. Steven Wright officiating. Burial followed at Ridgecrest Cemetery.
