Lane alum records sack in NFL preseason game

Current and former athletes at Lane College had some memorable moments over this past summer in representing their college.

Dragon alum Andrew Farmer made his NFL debut on Sunday in a preseason game for the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Jacksonville, Fla., native graduated from Lane this past spring and signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent over the summer.

He got his chance to shine in the Bolts’ first preseason game on Sunday in addition to three tackles.

Simmons signs pro contract in Germany

The TSV 1880 club out of Wasserburg, Germany has signed former Lane College basketball star Kayla Simmons to a pro deal.

The Brandon, Miss. native finished the regular her senior campaign averaging 14.7 points per game and 9.3 rebounds and was named Second Team All-SIAC for the second year in a row.

She had a career night in November, scoring 29 points and pulling in 13 boards in a win over Arkansas Baptist. Her best conference outing came against Kentucky State in January when Simmons scored 24 points to go along with seven rebounds. She had a season-high 19 rebounds against Clark Atlanta in December.

Simmons registered nine double-doubles in her final season at Lane and finished her career with a total of 22.

Gaston named preseason All-SIAC

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced their All-SIAC women's volleyball preseason team, featuring sophomore Kyra Gaston.

Gaston finished last season with 330 kills, 32 aces and 91 digs.
