Jimmy C. “Sonny” Brown was born on June 5, 1951, to the late Mr. Jimmy Lee and Mrs. Annie Lee Brown of Macon, Mississippi. Growing up Sonny attended schools in Mississippi and Alabama. After settling in Jackson, Tennessee at an early age he became fascinated with working on cars where he would later go on to become a truck driver and mechanic. He worked and retired from L. Dalton Poultry as a mechanic. He was also a huge Alabama “Roll Tide” fanatic.
He accepted Christ as his personal savior as a young adult and attended New St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church where he was a faithful member. He was a singer in the male chorus as well as a bass guitar player. He also played bass guitar at Salem Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Jimmy Lee and his mother, Annie Lee; a son, Ronnie Benard Brown; a sister, Alice Stevenson of East Saint Louis, Ill.; one uncle, Richard Woods of East Saint Louis, Ill.; and one aunt, Mary Lee Hampton of Charleston, MS.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 54 years, Linda Faye (Epperson) Brown. From this union he leaves three children, Donnie (Felicia) Brown of Jackson, Lamont (Latasha) Brown of Smyrna, and Dr. Tracy (Jason) Comer of Clarksville; nine grandchildren, Orlando Brown, Kiona Brown, Kiana Brown, Jada Comer, Breanna Brown, Tiana Brown, Ayana Brown, Jason Comer, Jr, and Jordan Comer; seven brothers, Jimmy L. Brown, Jr of Elgin, Ill., Willie C. Brown of Jackson, Lou G. Brown of Memphis, Otis C. Brown of San Diego, Calif., Tommy J. (Veronica) Brown of Birmingham, Ala., Bobby G. Brown of Knoxville, and James H. Brown of Tutwiler, Miss.; four sisters, Bernice L. Ross of Jackson, Annie J. Brown of Houston, Texas, Veola Brown of Memphis, and Barbara A. Brown of Jackson; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
A Visitation will be held (today) Thursday, July 25, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Mercer Brothers Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at New St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, Jackson. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, Jackson.
