Jackson’s Blake moving up TCW ranks

Logan Blake played football in high school at South Side.

He wasn’t one of the top players. He wasn’t even one of the more athletic guys on the squad.

But he loved the competition and the physicality of the sport.

Something else he loved was professional wrestling, and four years removed from his high school days, Blake is making a name for himself in local wrestling promotions.

After training for two years in Mid-South Wrestling, a promotion based in Dyersburg, he made the move to Tennessee Championship Wrestling.

TCW is owned and operated by K.C. Gold, and he enjoys having Blake as one of his youngest stars.

Gold is also glad to have Blake as the Southern Heavyweight Champion.

“The Southern Heavyweight Championship has its own legacy,” Gold said. “Logan is holding a belt now that’s been held by Jackie Fargo, Jerry Lawler, Bill Dundee and a number of other legends in the wrestling business.

“He’s the guy carrying on that legacy now, and he’s doing a great job with it.”

Blake wants to be a big star in pro wrestling, but he said he wants to do it the right way.

“A lot of guys have no problem breaking rules and doing what they need to do to get ahead,” Blake said. “I’m not that guy.

“We have rules for a reason, and it’s part of what makes the sport great is the rules. I see no reason to break them.”

Blake said he hopes to be an inspiration to children who watch TCW – particularly one group that he identifies with.

“I’m autistic, and I hope children who are growing up with autism can see me and see that they have potential to succeed in whatever they choose to do,” Blake said.

Gold sees that kind of potential in Blake.

He’s willing to not only put Blake in position to be a big star in the promotion, but in a way, he’s willing to depend on Blake to save Gold’s position in TCW.

On March 8, TCW has one of its biggest shows of the year when the fundraiser show for the Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse in Henderson happens at Chester County High School.

The main event for the show involves Gold. He’s the captain for a team of five wrestlers in an elimination match. His ownership of TCW is on the line against the captain of the other team, a manager named Lucky P.

“When I began looking over the roster of wrestlers, Logan was the first wrestler I wanted on my team,” Gold said. “Because he’s the kind of guy I want fighting on my side in a match this important.”

That show is set to begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door with children 12 and under admitted for free.

One of Blake’s predecessors in the Southern Heavyweight Championship lineage, Jerry Lawler, will be on hand taking pictures and signing autographs as well.

“I’m looking forward to the show,” Blake said. “It’s an important one, and I want to do my best for K.C. and for the fans of TCW.”
