STATE PRIMARY AND COUNTY GENERAL ELECTION

AUGUST 6, 2026

We, the undersigned Commissioners of Elections for Madison County, Tennessee pursuant to law, hereby give notice of a STATE PRIMARY and COUNTY GENERAL ELECTION to be held in all the voting wards and precincts of Madison County, Tennessee on Thursday, August 6, 2026, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. And 7:00 p.m.

STATE PRIMARY ELECTION: Governor

US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE (8th Congressional District)

TN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE (73rd & 80th  Representative District) 

UNITED STATES SENATOR (State Wide)

TENNESSEE STATE SENATOR

STATE COMMITTEEMAN & STATE COMMITTEEWOMAN

***THE QUALIFYING DEADLINE IS THURSDAY, March 10th @ 12:00 NOON.

Candidates for statewide office must file their nominating petition with the Coordinator of Elections no later than 12:00 noon, Thursday, March 10, 2026.

Other Primary Candidates must file their original nominating petition with the County Election Commission in which he/she is a resident and shall file a certified duplicate of the nominating petition with the County Election Commissions in all counties wholly or partially within the area served by the office which the candidates seek.

Independent Candidates to be on the November 3, 2026 State Election ballot must file their original nominating petition with the County Election Commission in the County in which he/she is a resident and shall file a certified duplicate of the nominating petition with the County Election Commissions in all counties wholly or partially within the area served by the office which the candidates seeks by 12:00 noon, Thursday, August 20, 2026.

County Mayor, Sheriff, Register of Deeds, County Trustee, County Clerk, 

General Sessions Judge Division 1(Unexpired Term) Circuit Court Clerk

Juvenile Court Clerk, Constable District 1-5 (All Positions)

School Board: (DISTRICTS: 1,  4 Position 1 & 2, 5 Position 2, 6 Position 2)

County Commissioner DISTRICTS: 1-10 Position (All Positions)

Qualifying petitions must be picked up in the Madison County Election Office. Candidates must file a qualifying petition with the Madison County Election Office signed by at least twenty-five (25) voters with residence addresses who are eligible to fill the office. All qualifying petitions must be signed by the candidate.

According to T.C.A. 2-8-113©, any person trying to receive a party nomination by write-in ballots shall complete a notice requesting such person’s ballot be counted no later than twelve (12:00) o’clock noon fifty (50) days before the primary election. The notice shall be on a form provided by the coordinator of elections and shall not require the signature of any person other than the write-in candidate requesting ballots be counted. Forms are available in the Election Commission office.

Elderly voters or voters with a disability assigned to vote in precincts wherein the polling place is not accessible may vote at the election commission office stating that such voter’s assigned voting location, to the best of the voter’s knowledge, does not comply with the provisions of Public Law 98-435 of  the 98th Congress. The affidavit must be received by the county election commission not less than ten (10) days prior to the first election in which the voter plans to vote at the election commission office. AFFIDAVIT must be received by July 27, 2026. As an alternative, an elderly or handicapped voter assigned to vote in a precinct where the polling place is inaccessible MAY VOTE during the EARLY VOTING PERIOD.
