Ronald McDonald House is on its way to Jackson once the facility it will be a part of at the corner of Forest and Lambuth in Midtown Jackson will be complete.
The family of Ryder Lewis, a Jackson Christian middle schooler who was killed in a boating accident in 2018, has been instrumental in bringing the organization to the Hub City after they spent some time in the Memphis Ronald McDonald House while Ryder was in the hospital before his death.
This weekend, there will be some basketball games played at Jackson Christian to help raise funds for the house. The event is called Hoops for the House, and there are some compelling matchups during the event.
"We called around and see who could be a part of this, and we're really excited about some of the teams and matchups we will have," said Kyle Teichmann, the head boys' basketball coach at Jackson Christian.
There are four boys' teams and four girls' teams coming, and each team will play every team of the same gender that will be a part of the weekend.
Both Jackson Christian teams will be there along with both teams from South Gibson County.
South Side and Fayette-Ware will be the other two girls' teams.
Lexington and Camden will be the other two boys' teams.
The action starts at noon on Friday with a South Gibson-Jackson Christian doubleheader with the Lady Eagles hosting the Lady Hornets followed by the boys' teams.
Fayette-Ware and South Side will then play with Lexington and Camden boys' in the night cap.
Games start at 3 p.m. on Saturday and Monday.
South Side and South Gibson girls will renew their rivalry from when they met four times two years ago when they were in the same district and came close to playing a fifth time in the state championship game if the Lady Hornets had won their semifinal matchup.
South Gibson's boys will then play Camden.
Jackson Christian will be in the final two games on Saturday with the girls playing Fayette-Ware and the boys playing Lexington.
South Gibson will get the day started again on Monday with the Lady Hornets playing Fayette-Ware and the Hornets wrapping their time at Jackson Christian up against Lexington.
The hosting Lady Eagles will then play against South Side, which will pit a couple of big names in Jackson basketball coaching with Brent McNeal against Tony Shutes. McNeal has said on multiple occasions that Shutes has been someone he looks up to in coaching.
The Eagles will wrap up their play against Camden.
