Fall sports roundup: Local golfers competing at state tournament

Posted

Here’s a look at how the postseason has progressed in the past week for fall sports teams throughout the county.

Golf

Local golfers will be competing this week at the state tournament at Sevierville Golf Club.

The boys’ teams at University School of Jackson and Jackson Christian qualified for the Division II-A tournament.

A couple of individuals qualified for the Division II-A girls tournament – Tori Robinson at Trinity Christian and Josie Porter at USJ.

Two golfers from Madison – Chad Joyner and Nora Manley – qualified as individuals for the Class A tournament in Division I.

Soccer

Madison’s Lady Mustangs got their postseason started in an emphatic manner as they beat Milan 10-1. They will play Thursday in the District 14-A championship against Gibson County at Gibson County. No matter what happens in the game, the Lady Mustangs will move on to the region tournament next week, but a win on Thursday means a home game in the region semifinals.

USJ started its tournament well with an 8-2 win over Northpoint in the quarterfinals but the Lady Bruins lost to St. George’s 4-1 in the semifinals. They played a consolation game against Harding Academy Wednesday evening, but results from that game weren’t final at The Post’s press time. The Lady Bruins were the only local team to make it past the region quarterfinals and will have a road game for the first round of the state tournament next week, playing for a chance to get back to Chattanooga.

Volleyball

The 2023 volleyball season officially ended on Tuesday for Madison County.

Madison lost to Loretto in the Region 6-A semifinals on Monday, eliminating the Lady Mustangs.

South Side fell to Creek Wood on Tuesday in the Region 6-AA semifinals.

University School of Jackson played in the first round of the Division II-A state tournament and lost to Concord Christian on Tuesday.
