Eleanor Cooke Chambers died peacefully on June 6, 2024, at her home at the age of 92.
Graveside services were Saturday June the 8, 2024 at Cairo Cemetery near Alamo with Mr. Glen Pendergrass and Mr. Jim Pentecost officiating. Eleanor was born on July 29, 1931, to Earl and Annie Cooke of Alamo. She was the youngest of three children. Eleanor graduated from Alamo High School and worked at Ronk Five and Dime until she married Albert Young Chambers of Tigrett, TN. They were married for over 50 years before his passing in 2005. They had one son, Dr Larry Cooke Chambers (Mona) of Jackson, TN; three grandchildren, Kristen Elizabeth Chambers of Jackson, Lauren Chambers Hunt (David) of Murfreesboro, and Dr Hanlan Cooke Chambers of Jackson, and one great grandchild, Harrison Cooke Hunt of Murfreesboro.
She leaves a special niece, Charlotte Cooke Lowe of Alamo, whom she adored. She also leaves a special friend and caregiver, Olivia Lacy, who showed her much love in her later years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert and two brothers, Denton Cooke and James Cooke. She also served as a commissioner on the Jackson Housing Authority. She started her own business, Closets by Eleanor, that was one of the first closet organizing businesses in Tennessee.
