Edward Poe Jr, affectionately known as “Jr” or Jr Poe”, was born Jan. 15, 1951, to Lucille Martin-Poe and Edward Poe Sr. He departed this earthly life on Aug. 27, 2024.
He attended the Madison County Schools where he participated in basketball and track.
He was pursued by a military recruiter and joined the USMC where he received an honorable discharge. Edward’s work history consists of Butt Foods, State of TN, Fence Master and finally retiring from Waste Management.
Edward was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Martin-Poe, his grandparents Rev. Johm H. (Alak) Poe and George (Odie Bell) Martin and a bonus sister, Jackie Rhea-Stitts.
He leaves to cherish his memory Eva Merriweather-Poe, whom he was married to for 27 years and remained in a relationship until his passing. Five children, Keisha Poe (Art) Hinton of Indianapolis, Ind. Randall Sims, Chelsea Fuller, Avery (Serenity) Fuller, all of Jackson, and Eckaleshia Minor of Murfreesboro. He also leaves two bonus daughters that he was a loving dad to since 1985. Andrea Merriweather and Candace Lancaster of Southaven, Miss. Two sisters, Yolanda (David) Harvey of Delaware and Gail Poe-Wimes of New Jersey. Two bonus brothers, Rickey Olridge of Jackson, and John A. Rhea of Memphis, 21 grandchildren, and two bonus grandsons. A good friend and neighbor, Fred Anderson. A good friend and godson, Dee Woods, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life was held on Sept. 7 at Stephenson-Shaw Funeral Home, Inc.
Burial was held at Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads.
