Dog Fancier’s Association donates K-9 vest to Madison Co. Sheriff’s Office

The Jackson TN Dog Fanciers Association donated a ballistic dog vest to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday. 

Rico, the three-year-old Belgian Malinois, is the recipient of the vest. He recently joined the department to search for drugs, along with other duties. 

“Rico is certainly an officer just like any of our other deputies or officers here at the Madison County Sheriff's Office. And we would take that to heart. We want to make sure that Rico is protected. This has been a way for us to be able to protect Rico even further from any kind of foreign objects or gunfire, anything like that,” Jeff Wall, spokesperson for the department said. 

The Dog Fanciers Association used funds from their dog shows to pay for the vest, which cost more than $1,000. 

“We try to give back to the community,” said Laura Cox, President of the Jackson, TN Dog Fanciers Association. 

The JTDFA is a non-profit club founded in 1996 and is a member club of the American Kennel Club. The club promotes pure-bred dogs and hosts dog shows each spring at the Jackson Fairgrounds Park. This year’s shows will be held on March 23-26.
