Last week was Constitution Week in the United States, and the Madison County chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated appropriately.
They hosted a meeting and commemoration ceremony at the VFW on Airways Boulevard.
Jackson Mayor Scott Conger and Madison County Mayor A.J. Massey were on hand to read proclamations recognizing the importance of the week.
And the DAR members read through the Bill of Rights, the first 10 amendments to the Constitution.
About 75 members were in attendance for the recognition.
After the reading of the Bill of Rights, the DAR officially celebrated the Constitution the way it’s traditionally celebrated – with ringing of bells.
“When the Constitution was first ratified, they said to ring any bells they could find – church bells, school bells, little bells, whatever,” said Jackie Utley with DAR. “So we celebrate every year with ringing our own bells.”
