Here’s a look at things going on in and around Jackson in the next couple weeks.

Oct. 12

Tacos and Tecates

Jackson State Community College Foundation will host its 2nd Annual Tacos and Tecates fundraiser from 6-9 p.m. at Skillet Junction (575 South Royal Street in Downtown Jackson).  Tickets are $40 and will cover a casual evening of music, dancing, food and two drinks. This fundraiser benefits a scholarship fund designated for students. Tickets are available online on Jackson State’s website.

Lambuth Pop Ensemble

Hosted in the Hamilton Performing Arts Center on the campus of University of Memphis-Lambuth, the Fall 2023 Lambuth Pop Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m.

Oct. 13

Food Truck Fridays

Downtown Jackson and the West TN Farmers Market (91 New Market Street in Downtown Jackson) bring you Food Truck Fridays! Make plans to join them every Friday, May through November, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. to experience local eateries at lunch to end your work week and support local businesses.

House of Misfits: Parallel Universe

For the past three years coach, choreographer and director Amanda Scott has been putting on her production, HOUSE OF MISFITS, an Aerial performance. Each year the stage has gotten bigger, the program fuller and the applause louder. This year the story of the Misfits and the Mad Scientist who created them, continues in a Parallel Universe in a postapocalyptic world. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with the show starting at 6 p.m. at Jackson Fairgrounds. Tickets are available at arrowathletics.com. Aerialists from 8 years old to adult will perform Aerial Silks and Aerial Hoop in a one-of-kind performance this Halloween. Family friendly, kids of all ages will enjoy. (There will be loud music, light flashes and some scary sounds, but all in good fun.)

Oct. 14

Le Bonheur Pumpkin Run

The Pumpkin Run benefiting Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital will happen at the hospital at 1535 Vann Drive. There will also be a Family Walk, Kids 400M Fun Run, Boo Bash Post-Race Family Fun and Costume Contest.

400 m Kids’ Fun Run: Kids 10 and younger can participate in a 400m Fun Run starting at 8:00 am, at the official 5K start line. Those who participate will receive a ribbon.

Casey Jones Village Festival

The second annual festival will be Saturday, October 21st from 10am to 4pm. Guests can enjoy Children’s games, arts and crafts, and live music as the highlights of the festival. Food vendors and local businesses will be in attendance, providing a one-stop shopping experience of West TN businesses.

Guest will be able to utilize the Festival Passport, where they will receive a special treat upon completing visits to locations throughout the village, including the Casey Jones, Train Museum and the Art In The Village art gallery. The event is free to attend, however certain vendors may charge.

Tennessee Metal Devastation Music Festival

The Tennessee Metal Devastation Music Fest will be cranking out the metal at The Amp in downtown Jackson. Just like last year, the show will be all ages (PG-13) and will feature 12 bands and 12 hours of music. Many of last year’s favorite bands will be back again this year as well as many new bands. Bring your own chairs and coolers. Meet the bands, buy merch, and shop with vendors. There will be a variety of vendors, featuring oddities, taxidermy, metaphysical supplies, original art, crafts, food, and more.

Brew Wing 2023

This year’s event will feature an amazing silent auction, grill masters competing for the title of “SRP Wing King 2023,” and a cornhole tournament. Help support the Scarlet Rope Project at this year’s Brew-Wing Event. Bring your family and friends to enjoy wings, a corn hole competition, a silent auction, and more. The event happens at Hub City Brewing (250 West Main Street in Downtown Jackson) from 3-8 p.m. General admission is $10, and a wing platter is $25. Tickets are available online at Scarlet Rope Project’s website.

Voices in the Vineyard

Century Farm Winery (1548 Lower Brownsville Road in Jackson) continues its summer concert series with Randy Cooper and Scott Myatt at 7 p.m. Music starts at 7 p.m. Limited tables are available. Lawn chairs are available.

Jackson Symphony – Don’t Fence Me In

Come celebrate this eclectic mix of music from the American West as heard in both cinema and concert hall. Jackson’s own country music singer/songwriter, Brandon Lay, will perform in what promises to be a rousing concert. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Carl Perkins Civic Center (400 South Highland Avenue in Downtown Jackson). Tickets are available on the Symphony’s website for $40 and $50.

Exile concert

Legendary band Exile will be in concert at The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center on the town square in Huntingdon at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale between $33 and $48 at dixiepac.net.

Oct. 19

Business After Hours

Simmons Bank (480 Oil Well Road in Jackson) will be this month’s host of The Greater Jackson Chamber’s networking event. Chamber members are invited to attend to make contacts, network and enjoy hours d’oeuvres from 5-7 p.m.

Runway for a Cure

Join us for a night of fashion, food and fundraising at the 29th annual Runway For A Cure. This year’s theme is Glitz & Glam, 90’s style. Lolo will emcee this night as boutiques from across West Tennessee will show off their latest & greatest, The Pinch will play some 90s tunes and more. Table service starts at 6:15 p.m. at the Carl Perkins Civic Center. Individual tickets start at $30 and are available by e-mailing toni.mack@cancer.org or calling 901-524-5484.

United States Air Force Band

The United States Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants will be in Jackson at Liberty Technology High School at 7 p.m. to present a FREE concert. This is a rare event to hear patriotic music, broadway classics and as always a salute to celebrate our veterans. Free tickets are available at Eventbrite.com.

Oct. 20

Pelican Fest

Register online at tnstateparks.com or 731-253-9652. Pontoon tours are available at $20 per person for guided tours, $50 for photography pontoon tour and $23.50 for guided canoe tours. There are tours, photography opportunities, decoy painting opportunities, late night campfires and night hikes and more scheduled throughout the weekend from Friday morning until Sunday evening.

Oct. 21

Exotic Pet Expo

Be at Jackson Fairgrounds on Oct. 21-22 for the Jackson, TN Exotic Pet Expo. Come and see the exotic animals such as snakes, spiders, lizards, parrots, sugar gliders, hedgehogs, hamsters, plus supplies, feeders, and more on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per person.

Hatchie Bottom Bluegrass Jamboree

Join the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center for the 6th annual Hatchie Bottom Bluegrass Jamboree at1 North Washington Avenue in Downtown Brownsville. It will be a day packed full of great bluegrass music.  Shade tree pickers are welcome to come and enjoy pickin’ on the stage at 10 a.m. Stage music begins at 11 a.m. and features J-Town Ramblers, Mikaela Langley, Cecil Yancy, Grassfire Bluegrass Band and Hatchie Bottom Boys.

Bring your lawn chairs. This is a family-friendly and FREE event. Food Truck on site – Tete’s Food Wagon.

Lane Homecoming

The Lane College Homecoming Celebration will take place October 15 – 21, 2023. The week-long festivities will include the Homecoming Coronation, Dr. J.L. Perry Memorial Golf Tournament, the 2023 Hall of Distinction, the Homecoming Parade, and more! On Saturday, Oct. 21, the Lane College Dragons will compete against Virginia University of Lynchburg at 2:00 p.m. at Lane Field.

To access applications for participation in the Dr. J.L. Perry Memorial Golf Tournament, Homecoming Parade, and Homecoming Tailgate Extravaganza, that is available on Lane’s website. Applications may be completed and submitted online or by visiting the Office of Alumni Affairs in Bray Hall, Room 302. Payment in full must accompany applications online or in person to reserve your golf, parade, and vendor/tailgate spots. Sheriff Buford Pusser bus tour

This tour will board at the Sheriff Buford Pusser Museum at 8 a.m. It will go to all of the places in McNairy County where it all happened – the ambush sites, cemetery, jail, crash site, state line & MANY others. Lunch will be provided. You will also go to Chester County to see the sites that you may recognize from many movies. Seats are $75. All food, drinks and snacks are included. You may tour the museum as many times as you would like during the weekend. When the bus returns, there will be a cookout that evening.

Fall Festival at theLOCAL

Join the crew at theLOCAL for a day of fall fun in the heart of Downtown Jackson, Tennessee. The fall festival will feature face-painting by 731 Face Painting, live music performed by Izzy Arthurs, yard games, and over 16 vendors showcasing their wares. Momma, Cheese Grilled Cheese Truck will be setup and serving up some delicious fall comfort food. So, put on your favorite flannel shirt and grab the family and your best buds and join us for some good old fashioned fall fest fun. The vendors list includes Handmade by Lizzie, Cracker Jack Vintage, Evie Thrifts, Got Dough Cookies, Just Ok Art, Samantha Wood Art, Hello Grace, Blanc & Noire, Pampered Nook Creations, Caleb Cook, Marie Plymer Jewelry, Bullhollow Farms, Grayson Hart, Gooelry, Hannah Moore Creative Collective, No Stress Thrift and Decor by Herron.

Krewfest 2023

Third Eye Curiosities in association with Glen Buckley, Third Eye Media, and Hunter Cross are proud to present Krewfest ‘23, the annual celebration of local music in support of local Charities RIFA and ARM. Both organizations provide outreach to the unsheltered community in Jackson, and are proud pillars of our community. The show will run from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. hosted by Third Eye Media’s own Joseph DeLaney and will include music from seven talented local bands.

Entry is free. We only ask that you bring a donation of either cash, or coats and boots that will go directly to the organizations to be handed out for the oncoming fall and winter months. Food and drinks will be available for purchase as well as a silent auction. If you cannot make it but would still like to donate you can contact Joseph DeLaney at 731-803-9021 or drop off your donation @ Third Eye Curiosities during regular business hours.

West Tennessee Small Band Championship

The Jackson Christian Eagle Marching Band will host the second annual West Tennessee Small Band Championship Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023. The Jackson Christian Choir will open the event with the National Anthem at 4:45 p.m. on Jackson Christian’s Southern Capital Field at Ronnie Fowler Stadium. Admission will be $10, and concessions will be available for purchase. Established to shine the spotlight on small bands with fewer than 50 members, the 2023 West Tennessee Small Band Championship will include 19 bands. The Jackson Christian Eagle Marching Band will perform in exhibition following the 19 guest bands. The final performance of the night will be a mass band, composed of members from all 20 bands. With more than 350 members, the mass band will perform “Tennessee Waltz.”

Shenandoah at The Dixie

The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center on the square in Huntingdon will host country music band Shenandoah at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices do not include taxes and fees: $43, $48, $53, $58, and they can be ordered online at dixiepac.net. Shenandoah became well known in the early 1990s for delivering such hits as “Two Dozen Roses”, “Church on Cumberland Road” and “Next to You, Next to Me” as well as such achingly beautiful classics as “I Want to be Loved Like That” and the Grammy winning “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart” duet with Alison Krauss. The boys from Muscle Shoals have left a potent legacy in country music with more than 300 million streams, over 8 million combined album sales, and 13 No. 1 radio singles over the course of more than three decades.

Oct. 22

Cemetery Walk

The Big Black Creek Historical Association will host the Cemetery Walk on October 22 from 2 -5 p.m. The walk will be at Old Denmark Presbyterian Church

(561 Highway 138 in Denmark).

Sip & Paint

Join Century Farm Winery from 3 -4:30 p.m. for an afternoon of creativity and relaxation as you sip on their finest wines and let your artistic talents shine as you paint an autumn theme onto a wine bottle. Instructor, Melinda Reid, will guide you through a step-by-step painting session that’s perfect for both beginners and experienced artists. You’ll be amazed at what you can create with a little wine and a lot of inspiration. Reserve your spot now before it’s too late. This event promises to be a memorable one, filled with laughter, artistry, and, of course, Century Farm’s delicious wines. Tickets are $45 per participant.

Witches’ Night Out

Grab your best witches for Crown Winery’s Witches Night Out. Come out for an evening of Wine, shopping, and Halloween fun. Vendors include Goldn Company, Tucked and Threaded, Shop Hello Annie, Sprinkle Me Sugar, Lets Get Into The Magic and more. Kimberlie Helton will be there performing as well. Tickets are $5.

Take Your Girls Night Out 5K

The Women’s Clinic is getting ready for the 14th annual Take Your Girls Night Out 5K. Registration at the door will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the race will start as close to 6 as possible. It’s Halloween-themed, so costumes are welcomed. Early bird registration is now open. The race will be at the Clinic at 244 Coatsland Dr.

Made in Jackson journal launch

Hub City Brewing is hosting Our Jackson Home’s launch of the “Made In Jackson” journal. The “Made in Jackson” issue is a collection of stories featuring people in Jackson who are making Jackson in the areas of community, culture, change, and cuisine, with stories selected from nominations by community members. Come out to Hub City Brewing for a night of stories and celebration of the role each of us have to play in making our community. The event will include talks by Trunetta Atwater, Olivia Abernathy, Trista Havner and Anthony Kirk. There will be live music by Stedman Roebuck and Alice Hardin. The event starts at 6:30 p.m.

Dancing with the STARs

Dancing with the STARs presented by Leaders Credit Union, benefiting The STAR Center, returns for its 8th season on at the Jackson Fairgrounds. Join the crowd for an evening full of dinner, drinks, and dancing.
