Charles Samuel Doumitt, Sr., age 82 of Jackson TN, watched his final sunset on July 2, 2024 in the arms of his soulmate of 60 years and surrounded by his loving family and the prayers of so many. His family is certain that he rode his wild Arabian stallion, Makado, through the pearly gates of Heaven at top speed and was met by a ton of loved ones celebrating his arrival. Chuck was a faith-filled Catholic man, known for his love of spending time in nature with his family, friends, his many Arabian horses, and all the animals he encountered in the great outdoors.

Chuck was born on May 4, 1942 in Portland, OR to Samuel Charles Doumitt and Adele Elizabeth Koury Doumitt. His family moved to Independence, MO when he was a child, where he spent his youth. He attended St. Mary’s High School in Independence and was the quarterback of the football team. He received his bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s of the Plains College.

Chuck met the love of his life, Margaret Elizabeth Azar, when he was 23, and they were blessed with 60 sacred years together and five children. Together, they built a business and family in Tupperware called Dawn Distributors. He was proud to later serve St. Ann Catholic Church, in Barlett, TN as the Director of Administration and Finance alongside his lifelong friend, Father Bruce Cinquegrani, who was pastor at the time.

When their two youngest children lost their sight; Chuck and Margaret created learning, working, and independent living solutions for them and many others by founding The STAR Center in 1988. The STAR Center quickly grew into the largest assistive technology center in the nation and, to this day, still offers new windows of hope and opportunities for thousands each year.

As a 3rd degree black belt in Shotokan karate, he led many students into the love of this martial art form and made many lifelong friends. He was the first karate instructor in Jackson, TN. Chuck had a passion for flying. He got his private pilot’s license and shared his joy of the skies with all who dared to adventure with him. He was an avid weightlifter all of his life, and was instrumental in the formation of the youth group at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Chuck had a deep passion and love for the natural world and all its creatures. He loved hunting, fishing, and anything to do with horses. Most of his family and friends have treasured memories and great stories to tell from their adventures together in the great outdoors. He was a true outdoorsman and a real-life Cowboy.

All agree that one of his greatest traits was his passionate heart with which he taught, by example, how to love fully and live life completely. Chuck never met a stranger nor an adventure not worth having. Each person held an opportunity to learn and grow and each experience the same. And if there was someone in need, he would always offer a helping hand.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two beloved children, Angela Elizabeth Doumitt and George William Doumitt.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Azar Doumitt; his children, Rosemarie Doumitt, Theresa Doumitt (Mark Szczypinski), Chuck Doumitt, Jr., (DeeDee); his grandchildren Laura Lilley (Brandon), Isaac, Alek, Nicholas, Max, Amir, DJ, and Joshua; his great grandchildren, Hana, Luke, Angel, and Leo Lilley; and his siblings, Ronald (Christy) Doumitt, Gerald (Sheila) Doumitt, Theresa (Gary) Bowman, and Michael (Kendra) Doumitt. He was honored to have Heidi Vonder Meulen, Kyra Eggenberger, Tracy Curry, Stacy Dalton, and Wylie Ligon Jr. join the Doumitt family.

A Mass of Catholic Burial for Charles “Chuck” Doumitt, Sr., will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 4:30pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1665 Hwy 45 Bypass, Jackson, TN.
