The new staff at The Carnegie Center for Arts and History (305 East College Street in Downtown Jackson) is preparing for a special holiday occasion.
On Dec. 13, they are offering "Christmas at the Carnegie," which is a free event meant to give local families a chance to check out what is planned for The Carnegie in 2025 as well as enjoy a holiday experience.
"We've got a lot of big plans for next year here at The Carnegie to bring the community in and enjoy different experiences, and it all really starts with Christmas at the Carnegie," said Aaron Hardin, the Carnegie's director.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. on that Friday evening with a few things geared toward children, and as the evening progresses, entertainment that adults are more likely to enjoy from the Hub City Theater Company and Hub City Improve will round out the evening.
But between the event's bookends will be an artist working in one of the new classrooms where art classes will be presented. Local musicians will be playing Christmas music. Hot chocolate and other holiday treats will be available to enjoy while those present mingle and see what The Carnegie is serving up next year.
Hardin and Gabrielle Evans have been working to revamp The Carnegie into a multipurpose space that still houses the Legends of Tennessee Music Museum with memorabilia from Carl Perkins, Denise LaSalle, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and many more all the way to Jackson’s current star, LOLO.
Museum tour guides Becky Fly and Rodger Jowers are also still in the building helping connect visitors with the history The Carnegie presents to all who enter.
“The Carnegie continues to celebrate Jackson’s musical history, but we also want to contribute to its artistic present and future,” Hardin said. “And we’re looking forward to celebrating Christmas on Dec. 13 with the community.”
