Both of Tennessee's U.S. Senators were in Jackson for lunch on Election Day as Marsha Blackburn campaigned for re-election and Bill Hagerty was on the campaign trail with her.
Nearly 200 supporters packed into the Delta Room of The Old Country Store where they had their campaign rally that sometimes sounded like a church service with the number of "amen" and "hallelujah" shouts that came from the crowd.
While they campaigned for Blackburn to win re-election, they felt like they had an advantage over Gloria Johnson, a State Representative from Knoxville, so they spoke as much about supporting former President Donald Trump in his bid to become President again.
"We need more than a win," Hagerty said. "We want to run up the score to show Marsha how much we love her but to also show the country how much Tennessee loves President Trump and to give him a win in the popular vote as well as the electoral college."
Trump didn't win the popular vote when he won election in 2016.
"There aren't many elections where the candidates are polar opposites of each other, but look at this one," Blackburn said. "President Trump and the Vice-President cannot disagree on more than they already do in this election.
"If you want a secure border, lower inflation and smaller government that doesn't control every aspect of your life, vote for President Trump. If you're against safe borders and want higher prices, then you need to vote for that candidate."
After the rally was over and Blackburn spoke and took pictures with supporters, Old Country Store owner Brooks Shaw started what he hopes is a new tradition when Blackburn and State Representative Chris Todd stopped by Miss Ann's Ice Cream Parlor on their way out after the rally and served some customers some ice cream.
