Beasts dominated their area of the field last week

The purpose of Brandon’s Beasts is to highlight the guys in the trenches or on defense who don’t normally get a lot of attention outside their locker room because they’re not the ones running, passing or receiving all the yards and touchdowns.

But most of the offensive skill players (the honest ones, at least) will be quick to say what they do over the course of a football game isn’t as significant – if even possible – without the other guys on the team.

But sometimes, there’s a team performance so great that it deserves appropriate recognition.

Jackson Christian’s defense turned in a performance in an undefeated matchup that not many are able to and showed how dominant the Eagles are against a lot of their competition in Division II-A West.

Tipton-Rosemark entered the game undefeated and averaging nearly 30 points per game.

The entire defensive squad for the Eagles shut the Rebels down and held them to 70 total yards. And 19 of those were rushing yards.

Head coach Darby Palmer credited defensive coordinator Rob Phillips with a quality strategy for the Rebels last week, and it worked – particularly because of the execution of the players on the field.

Here are a few more Brandon’s Beasts for Week 6:

Khamyrahn Caldwell, South Side: The defensive lineman has been a player to run away from as he’s been disruptive whenever the opposing offense runs to his side.

Bra’Kyrin Cole, Jackson Central-Merry: The Cougars run a lot of their offense behind Cole, and he’s a force that opposing defenses have to account for on every play he’s on the field.

Rakarious Lacy, South Side: Lacy gets a lot of attention for his ball-carrying abilities on offense, but he’s also a leader for the defense and regularly gets a lot of tackles for the Hawks.

Hank Miller, Trinity Christian: The linebacker recorded 13 tackles and affected a number of plays by the Lions’ opponent throughout the game.

Justin Parker, University School of Jackson: Returned an interception for a touchdown.
