Artists and business collaborate at First Friday Art Walk

The Jackson Arts Council held its first “First Friday Art Walk” Friday in Downtown Jackson. Ten different businesses hosted 15 artists to sell their work, while community members were given maps to explore the stores.

This is the first time the art walk has been held, and it will happen the first Friday of every month until November.

“This time is all visual artists and you can get anything from actual massive paintings to anything as small as little pieces of jewelry,” JAC Director Lizzie Emmons said.

As summer approaches, Emmons expects to expand the art walk to more businesses and artists. The Arts Council has 60 members currently. Artists will rotate in and out of different spaces throughout the year.

“Our goal as the Arts Council is to support the arts and culture sector, and we know that when artists are included in spaces, it's also going to drive economic activity and business into other spaces. This is really just a great thing for everybody involved,” Emmons said.

The First Friday Art Walk is from 3 to 6 p.m. in Downtown Jackson the First Friday of every month. For more information, go to 731arts.com.
