A juvenile is facing felony charges after allegedly brandishing a firearm at a man and his six-year-old son at a retail store in Jackson over the weekend. The alleged perpetrator robbed the victim at Target, 93 Stonebrook Place, around noon on Saturday. A press release issued by the Jackson Police Department earlier this week noted the suspect used the victim’s credit card at Dick’s Sporting Goods shortly after the initial incident.
The JPD reports today that an arrest of a 16-year-old has been made and the juvenile faces charges of Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault and Burglary. District Attorney Jody Pickens reports he will seek a transfer to adult court based on the severity of the crime.
According to the JPD press release issued today, video surveillance captured the victim and his child entering the restroom of Target, with the suspect following the pair into the bathroom. Initial reports indicate the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm at the pair, robbed the victim of his property before fleeing the retail store.
The JPD utilized technology, known as Flock Camera, to assist in identifying the suspect’s vehicle, a black Toyota Rav 4, and its registered owner. Community and family members assisted with the investigation and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
JPD representatives note this is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information that could be beneficial to this case is asked to contact an investigator at 731-425-8400.
