The eighth annual Jacob Barker Music Festival made its return to Jackson’s AMP at the West Tennessee Farmer’s Market this past weekend to bring live music, food, and fun to the Hub City in the name of a good cause.
The music festival lasted Oct. 11th-12th and featured performances from local musicians such as Karleigh Fagan and Ben Colling, Kelso Mojo and Will Burton. Those who attended the festival also had a chance to enjoy food trucks, vendors, and a silent auction.
Jacob Barker, who the festival is named after, was diagnosed with retinoblastoma as a young child. During his time battling his illness, Barker was able to visit Disney World through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This experience drove Barker’s parents to put together the festival as a fundraising event for kids like their son.
The Jacob Barker Music Festival began in 2016 as a way to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The festival was started by Jacob’s parents, Melissa and Ronnie Barker, to garner more funding and awareness for children experiencing detrimental illnesses.
Through the generosity of the community and the dedication of sponsors, volunteers, and local musicians over the past eight years, the Jacob Barker Fest has raised thousands of dollars to help other children’s dreams come true through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
