UPDATE: Baby found alive in dumpster, continues to receive medical care

The Jackson Police Dept. has given an update regarding a newborn baby boy found in a dumpster at 33 Carver Ave. in Jackson.

According to a release sent out by the department Thursday afternoon, officers were dispatched to the area at 4:15 Thursday morning in regards to a baby found in a dumpster.

Jackson Police, along with the Jackson Fire Dept. and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and provided life-saving medical care. EMS transported the baby to a local hospital for further treatment.

In the release, the department says they are “grateful the baby is alive and continuing to receive medical treatment.” The mother of the baby has also been identified at this point.

JPD, along with the Department of Children Services, is still investigating the incident. They also want to remind those in need that there are options for people in difficult situations. Fire departments, police departments, and hospitals are all considered Safe Havens. If someone is struggling with making this type of decision, they can call 1-866-99-BABY1.

Earlier story: The Jackson Police Dept. is looking for the parents of a newborn baby found early Thursday morning.

According to a Facebook post by the department, a newborn baby boy was found in a dumpster at 33 Carver Ave. around 3:30 a.m. Jan. 19.

Police are asking anyone with information about the baby boy to call them at (731) 425-8400, or Crime Stoppers at (731)424-8477.
