BREAKING: TCA names Darren Bowling its next football coach

Trinity Christian has named its new football coach, and the Lions got someone with a championship history.

Darren Bowling, who led Union City to four Class 1A state championships between 2009 and 2017, was announced Thursday morning as the next leader for TCA.

“Coach Bowling has shown he has the ability to lead teams to the highest level in their class because of how many times he did it,” said TCA Athletic Director Dexter Williams. “And that’s one reason he’s the right man to lead our program.

“He’s a good man who knows how to lead young men, and he fits into what we wanted in our next football coach.”

Bowling takes the reins of the program after Blake Butler announced in February he would be leaving TCA to take the head coaching position at Evangelical Christian School.

He also won a pair of state championships in Louisiana at Silliman High School before moving to Tennessee, where he was the head coach at Obion County before going to Union City.

He left the Golden Tornadoes to take the head coaching position in Olive Branch, Miss., in 2020 before leaving a year later to coach at Murray High School in Kentucky.

Along with the six state championships, Bowling brings a career record of 231-104 to TCA.

“The world and the media want to know what you’ve done, and that’s why I put it on my resume,” Bowling told his new team Thursday. “But what impressed me about the leadership here is they never talked about all that.

“They wanted to know what’s in my heart and if I’m a believer. I love that, and that’s why I’m glad to be here.”
