Beasts did little things to help teams win

Some of our local teams in Madison County had some close wins this past week.

And if you look back at the film in those close wins, you’ll see a trend where a lot of different players are consistently doing the little things on every play that helps the guys that recorded large statistical numbers do what they do.

Here’s a rundown of some of those guys who played big parts in helping their teams compete even if their play might not have made any highlight reels outside their own film room.

We call them Brandon’s Beasts.

Deterius Douglas, Jackson Central-Merry: The senior led the Cougars with 10 tackles.

Jayland Eckford, Jackson Central-Merry: The freshman linebacker had eight tackles with three for loss.

Kevin Hoyle, South Side: The defensive lineman got into the backfield a few times and recorded a couple of tackles for loss and a sack.

Rakarious Lacy, South Side: Lacy is known for his ability to carry the ball, but he led the Hawks defensively in their win with eight tackles.

Christian Melton, University School of Jackson: The senior linebacker recovered a fumble to force a turnover during a time in the Bruins’ win when both teams were scoring, and the Bruins had momentum after that.

Kaleb Newsome, Jackson Christian: He finished with five total tackles, and one of them was for a loss and another was a sack.

James Reed, North Side: The lineman had five tackles and one for loss on defense and graded out at 90 percent on offense.

Kai Wyatt, Jackson Christian: The linebacker had 15 total tackles with three for loss.
